The next time I posted a blog article it was going to be a forerunner to my upcoming series on the Deity of Christ, but unexpected things happen all the time. My attention was sadly, once again diverted to the subject of domestic of abuse. This was so pressing that I put writing the series[...]
If you truly wish to understand Biblical submission as it relates to Christian wives, nothing will get you into the deep end faster than the two words “in everything” at the end of Ephesians 5:24. [...]
A fundamental way to love your husband is to be there for him. There is much that can be done to give our time and attention and keep our men from feeling alone. Some are small things. Some are big. Here are seven things that could help. [...]
God’s word reveals to us that He values humility. He calls us to it and His Son embodied the greatest demonstration of it. Since Jesus humbled Himself as He did, we should not find it distasteful to do the same. Let’s embrace it and seek to walk humbly in our marriages to the glory of God.
This post puts forth suggestions for how a Christian wife might begin to submit to her husband in everything. In all the material I have read over the years about Christian marriage, I don’t ever remember reading about that.
In this post, I am going to present some situations in which submission could occur under the umbrella of "everything." I’m doing this because specific examples can help clarify what submitting in everything can entail. It can also help reveal any areas we have not yet submitted to our husbands’ leadership.
This post is the launch of a new feature on Chapter 3 Ministries! I’m calling it "Do You Take This Verse?". The name is a play-on-words that brings together what has been traditionally asked during a marriage ceremony (Do you take this woman/man?) with the idea of living out Bible verses in our marriages. Tomorrow is Father’s Day! It is a joy for me to come to my first Father’s Day after starting this site. That means I have a really good reason for writing about my husband, not that I need one. There is much that I could say about him and probably would if the world could endure it. He is an exemplary husband and father. In him I see the love of Christ poured out daily. [...]
Since submission in marriage is a main topic of on my site, I thought it might be a good idea to set down a definition. I have read plenty and would like the opportunity to pen my own. Before I do that, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t first report what I found in the Greek and English dictionaries. There are six verses in the New Testament that mention submission in marriage. They are Ephesians 5:22&24, Colossians 3:18, Titus 2:5, and 1 Peter 3:1&5. The concept of submission mostly appears as submit, subject, or submissive. It comes from the Greek word hupotassō. [...]
The answer to this question can be very controversial. You will get a wide range of answers depending on who you ask. Even within the Christian community there is quite a spectrum of opinions. We could debate the wearing of shorts, long skirts, makeup, hair length. and a variety of other matters. Although this could lead to a very interesting discussion, I do not intend to head down that path right now. That’s a big discussion that can be entered into another time. Instead, I’d like to keep it simple and briefly discuss a different type of adornment. [...]
