Rule # 1: Be a good wife according to God’s standards as revealed in the Bible. When you are considering God’s standards as revealed in the Bible, be sure to include all of the Bible verses that apply to godly behavior, not just the verses about marriage. [...]
One significant danger that comes with modern technology is that it can be used to harm others. The possibilities to do harm seem endless. Because of this, we need to be mindful of our safety and privacy no matter what technology we use, whether it is the internet, smart phones, or smart devices in our homes. This is especially true for victims of domestic abuse and dating abuse. [...]
The next time I posted a blog article it was going to be a forerunner to my upcoming series on the Deity of Christ, but unexpected things happen all the time. My attention was sadly, once again diverted to the subject of domestic of abuse. This was so pressing that I put writing the series[...]
If you truly wish to understand Biblical submission as it relates to Christian wives, nothing will get you into the deep end faster than the two words “in everything” at the end of Ephesians 5:24. [...]
A fundamental way to love your husband is to be there for him. There is much that can be done to give our time and attention and keep our men from feeling alone. Some are small things. Some are big. Here are seven things that could help. [...]
“The husband is the head of the wife.” That is a sentence that can evoke strong reactions, especially today. What does it mean that the husband is the head of the wife? How one interprets this verse and other related verses can have significant impact on ones ideas about marriage.
God’s word reveals to us that He values humility. He calls us to it and His Son embodied the greatest demonstration of it. Since Jesus humbled Himself as He did, we should not find it distasteful to do the same. Let’s embrace it and seek to walk humbly in our marriages to the glory of God.
This post puts forth suggestions for how a Christian wife might begin to submit to her husband in everything. In all the material I have read over the years about Christian marriage, I don’t ever remember reading about that.
In this post, I am going to present some situations in which submission could occur under the umbrella of "everything." I’m doing this because specific examples can help clarify what submitting in everything can entail. It can also help reveal any areas we have not yet submitted to our husbands’ leadership.
In this post, I will present what it means to submit in everything, as I understand it. [...]
Today, I want to look at a very important exception to everything. I do not believe that everything includes anything contrary to God’s word. In other words everything means everything but sin.
This post is the launch of a new feature on Chapter 3 Ministries! I’m calling it "Do You Take This Verse?". The name is a play-on-words that brings together what has been traditionally asked during a marriage ceremony (Do you take this woman/man?) with the idea of living out Bible verses in our marriages. [...]
In my post God-Fashioned Living I mentioned that there are obstacles that can interfere with submission. Some come from the world around us and some come from within us. Not every wife will experience the same obstacles, but I think it’s safe to say that we all face them. Even when our heart fully desires to follow the Lord’s will, we can still face challenges that hinder our submission. Thankfully with the Lord’s grace and help we can grow in those areas.
This week I’d like to take a look at one obstacle that some wives experience: A Perceived Intelligence Gap. [...]
Tomorrow is Father’s Day! It is a joy for me to come to my first Father’s Day after starting this site. That means I have a really good reason for writing about my husband, not that I need one. There is much that I could say about him and probably would if the world could endure it. He is an exemplary husband and father. In him I see the love of Christ poured out daily. [...]
Since submission in marriage is a main topic of on my site, I thought it might be a good idea to set down a definition. I have read plenty and would like the opportunity to pen my own. Before I do that, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t first report what I found in the Greek and English dictionaries. There are six verses in the New Testament that mention submission in marriage. They are Ephesians 5:22&24, Colossians 3:18, Titus 2:5, and 1 Peter 3:1&5. The concept of submission mostly appears as submit, subject, or submissive. It comes from the Greek word hupotassō. [...]
I love the glimpse into God’s heart that we see in 1 Peter 3:4. We read that a gentle and quiet spirit is precious in his sight. I love being able to know how he feels about this. Knowing that he so highly values a gentle and quiet spirit has made me value it too. It also fosters a great desire in my heart to pursue it. […]
In my last blog post I wrote about meekness in marriage. I drew from 1 Peter 3: 3-4. In those verses we read that a gentle (meek) and quiet spirit is precious in the side of God. Before and after those verses Peter writes about submission. He directs his comments to Christian wives and instructs them to adorn themselves with godly submission and behavior just as Sarah and the holy women did in the past. Appearing within these verses is a very important phrase. I believe it has a lot to do with why Sarah and the women of old were able to live as they did. [...]
If you have been a Christian for even a little while, there is a good chance that you are familiar with the teaching that Eve was created to be Adam’s helper. Many churches still teach this from Genesis 2:18. Christian wives are rightly encouraged to take this role in their marriages. While there is understandable emphasis given to the second half of this verse, I have noticed that the first half of this verse does not often receive the same attention. Have you considered how it might relate to your marriage? […]
We are three days into National Marriage Week. It started on February 7 and runs to Valentine’s Day. Marriage Week originated in the United Kingdom in 1996 and made its way to the United States in 2002. Today it is observed in countries all over the world. The aim of the week is to highlight the importance and benefits of marriage and to offer encouragement and assistance for married and engaged couples. [...]
